Toshiba previews the best gifts for technology lovers this holiday season

By Kimberly Rupnarain | October 13, 2011

With Thanksgiving behind us and Halloween just a few weeks away, it won’t be long before the season of gift-giving begins. And if Barbie dolls and video games are the toys children will be asking for this year — laptops, tablets and TVs are definitely the toys adults will be jotting down on their wish lists. Lifestyler attended the Toshiba Holiday Preview at Hôtel Le Germain in Toronto, to get a first-hand look at some of the hottest and most innovative new products for the upcoming holiday season.

After seeing everything from 3D televisions and laptops, to cameras and tablets, we found a number of products that would please any technology aficionado this holiday season.

TL515 Television — With passive 3D technology, this television allows users to move anywhere and everywhere, and still get the affect of a sharp 3D image projecting outward. Using the same glasses offered in a movie theatre for 3D screenings, viewers can watch 3D films, and can even turn the subject of a Skype video call into 3D as well. A fun fact we learned is that gaming systems such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox, come fully equipped with the ability to project in 3D. This means that users can also play video games on the TL515 and see the images with incredible depth and layering, as opposed to flat and one-dimensional.

Qosmio F750 Laptop — Toshiba’s top-of-the-line laptop, the Qosmio F750 offers users not only a sleek and attractive red exterior, but also a 3D viewing experience that is unique onto itself. Instead of using a special pair of glasses, the Qosmio F750 uses a combination of active lens technology and face-tracking technology, keeping the 3D image moving in unison with the viewers’ eyes and the image as sharp as possible. Also equipped with a 750GB hard drive, 8GB of memory, Harman Kardon speakers and Dolby advanced audio, this laptop would make any technology lover’s holiday a dream come true.

Thrive 7-inch Tablet — The Apple iPad, the BlackBerry Playbook, and most recently the Kindle Fire will all get some more competition this coming holiday with the release of Toshiba’s Thrive, a 7-inch touchscreen tablet slated for release this December. Designed to be 0.88 lbs and just under half-an-inch thin, this tablet is both small enough and light enough for technology lovers who are constantly on the go. Available in 16GB and 32GB, the tablet also includes two HD cameras, a five-megapixel camera and an LED flash to capture high-resolution photos and videos, as well as a two-megapixel camera in front for video chatting.
