With anticipation building for the 2011
Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the festival has announced the list of films the world has been
waiting all year for.
Set to open this year’s
festival is From the Sky Down, a documentary about U2, by American director
Davis Guggenheim. The choice comes at a surprise for many, since it has been 40 years since a documentary
film has held the prestigious title of “opening film” at TIFF.
Gala presentations include
The Ides
of March — a political film that is directed by George Clooney (whom is also set to star in the
flick) and Canadian actor
Ryan Gosling, who is also set to premiere his upcoming film Drive at the festival. Other big-name films
include 360, a dramatic thriller starring Jude Law and Rachel Weisz, and
50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen.
Canadian presentations
include director David Cronenberg’s film A Dangerous Method
which
depicts the story of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, starring Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender and Kiera
Knightley, and director/actress Sarah Polley’s film Take This
Waltz.
