Forget leopard and zebra prints,
this fall/winter season is all about snakeskin, which is often referred to in the fashion world as python. In
the past, this trend would usually be seen in the accessories department covering shoes and handbags, but it
has now slithered its way to blazers, leather pants, dresses and blouses.
While it’s elegant to add
small bits of python to your ensemble with a clutch or heels, a bolder look calls for a full print outfit or
the print mixed with this season’s pop colours — mustard yellow, orange, and electric
blue.
When dressing in print, it
can be easy to get carried away with your accessories and layers. If your clothes have a python print (or any
print in general), make sure your shoes are a solid colour, and this works oppositely if your shoes are the
ones carrying the print.
Some of the designers that
showed this trend the best on the runway for fall/winter 2011 are Gucci, Anya Hindmarch, Bulgari, Diane Von
Furstenberg and Nancy Gonzalez. To view their collections, visit style.com to “snake” some inspiration. •
