ALBUM
Voyageur
— Kathleen Edwards
Release date: Jan. 17, 2012
Ottawa-born Kathleen Edwards stormed into Canadian
consciousness with her 2003 debut album, Failer, and in particular the songs “Hockey Skates” and “Six O’Clock News.” She is now
set to release her fourth album, Voyageur, in January. Lifestyler got a sneak preview of the new album at an in-store show at Rough Trade East
record shop in London, for a pared-down peek at the new material. The first single, “Change the Sheets,” has
already been released. It’s not as overtly “country” and it’s a joyous,
pacy song.
(The B-side, incidentally, originated from the amazing National Parks Project album.) “Sidecar” employs a
similarly brisk, competent production (from Edwards herself alongside Justin Vernon of Bon Iver) and an
uplifting chorus.
