Blog on Blogs: Wedding Photography

August 5, 2010

A recent hobby of mine has been looking at wedding photography blogs. A principle of photography is that an image that depicts a good story can make up for poor technique. So when you have heartwarming stories with professionals there to capture every second, the result is stunning.

This is a niche I didn’t even consider until I recently saw a friend link this blog on Twitter. I was dazzled by all the wonderful moments and the obvious emotion that came through every vibrant photo. This is all one Toronto-based photographer’s photos, so here’s one of the best parts: He can be hired by you. I’m definitely keeping this blog in mind for whenever my big day arrives.

(Apparently, I’m proof another great thing about these blogs is that they easily convince men to think about weddings. No easy feat.)

My second choice of blog comes from a fellow Lifestyle writer, Stephanie. Snippet & Ink has photos from a range of very unique wedding ideas, from quirky to old-fashioned — many in a gorgeous rural setting. The name of the blog alone reveals a flair for the vintage.

Another is Davina + Daniel; from the banner alone you can tell cuteness is their forte. They are based in Montreal and New York, but have marvellous shots from around the world that strongly testify to love’s boundlessness. If you’re going anywhere exotic for a wedding, make Davina and Daniel your maid of honour and best man.

Here’s
some more Canadian content that’s glossy, but not overdone. There’s also an intriguing use of angles in many of the pictures. The head photographer of this blog, Duane Franklin, has been named Alberta Portrait Photographer of the Year multiple times.

There are lots of photography blogs out there, but it’s difficult to find the gems. For the day that sparkles brightest in your life, there should be no compromise. Whether you appreciate the beauty or are looking for someone to help capture a special day, hopefully this post helps.
