I can’t remember the last time I wore a watch. I think
it may have been when I was a youngster and proudly displayed my Mickey Mouse one that used its hands and
feet to mark the time.
Not many people are wearing watches now, resorting instead to their mobile phone. I can say I am a
perpetrator, and I will admit that it can be a hassle when my phone is buried at the bottom of my purse or I
have to constantly fish it out of my back pocket.
Despite all of this, watches are most definitely making a comeback with the Toywatch. I bet you’re
thinking, a toy watch? That was my exact reaction. But, no, it is not a watch that comes
out of a cereal box.
Have you noticed the chunky, bright-coloured watches on people’s wrists lately? It’s most likely a Toywatch.
In 2005, a Milan-based designer, Marco Mavilla, designed the first Toywatch, which is a lightweight,
over-sized and plastic watch that is inspired by high design timepieces.
This watch has become the “it” wristwatch and the must-have item for everyone, including men as it is a
unisex watch. They’ve also become increasingly popular especially with those in Hollywood. Some famous wrists
wearing them include Ellen DeGeneres, Al Gore, Michael Jordan, Alicia Keys, Madonna and Oprah Winfrey. Yes,
Oprah was seen sporting one.
Personally, I was very surprised by the designs. They are simple and elegant with the perfect amount of fun
colours and plastic. They have everyday ones that have a combination of sophistication and fun. In the
Plasteramic Watch Collection, there are the Black and White models with signature chic ceramic-looking
plastic, double crystal bezels, brilliant stone markers and a mother-of-pearl chronograph.
A little more vibrant and fun is the Neon Plasteramic Watch Collection, which includes colours like Plutonium
Pink and Kryptonite Green. Their Jelly Watch Collection, Safari Watch Collection and Tattoo Watch Collection
are also worth looking at.
