Sky’s Never the Limit

January 28, 2010

I know many people who just love a good thrill. Some of them play sports like rugby, while others make an annual trip to their favourite amusement parks to ride roller coasters for a day. However, these very people have told me that sometimes, they want something more exciting — like the tallest roller coaster in the world has become sort of boring. Being the type to consider a great, suspenseful book a thrill — I have never understood this “problem” people have. But, I suppose that when speed skating, playing rugby, riding roller coasters and downhill skiing don’t quite live up to the rush you’re looking for — try looking up.

The AJ Hackett Macau Tower in China is host to Sky Jump, a 17-second adrenaline rush. Standing at the outer rim of the Macau Tower, thrill-seekers can enjoy the view from 223 metres above ground. If that isn’t enough to get your blood flowing, just wait – there’s more.

Jumpers have been recorded to reach speeds of up to 75 km/h — that’s only five km/h slower than the speed limit on the local highways! But fear not, this not-quite-a-bungee-jump is slowed down for a comfortable — and safe — landing.

The Sky Jump has also been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Highest Commercial Decelerator Descent” in the world. My knees are already buckling just thinking about it.

If you’re brave enough to give it a try, I say, “Have fun and good luck!”
