When it comes to hair styles, feel free to step
back in time this fall.
Marco Dell-Elce, owner of the B-Suite Salon and Spa in Toronto’s Liberty Village, says the polished old movie
star look is popular for both men and women.
He shares his expertise for unleashing your own inner Marilyn Monroe or Elvis. For men, Dell-Elce says
heavily gelled spikes are probably his number 1 pet peeve. “For guys who are stuck with the spiky look, that
can be difficult to change, but slicker hair is more current right now,” he says. The idea, he adds, is to
trade the harshness of spikes for a softer and more sleek appearance.
Longer layers are what’s in for women this season, Del- Elce says. Again, the idea is to focus on movement
and shine. However, those ladies who are more interested in achieving a timeless look might opt for something
fancier, including big waves or a chic up-do. “And they’re elegant,” he adds about both styles. “Great for
parties and outings.” Generally speaking, trendy hair styles for women this season tend to be more
voluminous. “Think very Marilyn, 1950s, off the face,” says Delle-Elce.
But for others who may not have the time for big rollers or a blow dryer, a “wash and go” style may be more
suitable. Particularly for thick hair, there is a system known as Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy that
Delle-Elce says relieves frizz for at least three to four months. The system not only yields amazing results,
but smoother hair also means fewer hours spent on styling at home.
Of course, no seasonal transformation would be complete without colour. In terms of hair colour, women are
free to change their looks with the season, Delle-Elce explains. “In the summertime, that’s typically when we
see a lot of highlights. But for fall, we shift more into the reds and earth tones and go darker when winter
rolls around. It’s about the ability to have different changes.”•
