I love things that
make big bold statements. You can see this trend not only making waves in the fashion world, but also in home
décor in 2010.
Whether it’s contrasting colours, graphic patterns or things that sparkle, I’m beaming thinking about all the
ways I can incorporate this trend in my apartment. In 2010, you don’t have to go all out when revitalizing
your space to integrate this awesome style. Just pick one or two bold statements like lighting, walls,
upholstery and/or accessories, which will be just enough to make you décor savvy for the New Year.
Trianon, a store found at 247 King St. East in Toronto, has the perfect lighting fixtures to spice up your
room and make people stare with open mouths. Their white, pink and fuchsia feather ball fixtures are
so fabulous. They add a punch of colour and make quite a furry statement in the living room.
If you choose walls to incorporate this chic trend in 2010, check out Flavour Paper’s wall coverings. They
make all sorts of graphic wallpaper including floral, funky, geometric and traditional, which can be added to
a wall in a bedroom or living room. The “Monaco,” a spunky gold and baby blue
metallic floral covering, looks vintage but also modern, creating a unique statement. Look for metallics and
ones that shine in contrasting colours like black and white or eccentric tones like ruby, emerald, yellow and
indigo blue.
Big print fabrics are easy to add to any couch. They’re not only great to hid those stains from the party you
held last weekend, but also to make the couch stand out. Bold fabrics especially in upholstery are fantastic
because it will be the first thing anyone sees when entering a room. Bemz specializes in cushion, sofa and
armchair slipcovers. Their Marimekko
cotton fabric, black and white pattern sofa cover is a great addition for this trend. What would complete
this look is adding different-sized pillows with vibrant, solid colours like a fuchsia, neon orange or a
lively green.
