Effusion Art Gallery celebrates all contemporary art mediums — glass art, sculpture, paintings and jewelry — and features myriad Canadian artists, events and exhibitions that take place regularly throughout the year. It’s the quintessential space for art lovers to view stunning pieces up close, and for serious collectors, it’s a chance to buy.
Just over a year old, Effusion has been well received by the public and word is spreading. For Heather Cuell, Effusion owner and glass artisan, it’s all about highlighting the talented artists and styles she herself admires. “I wanted to bring mixed media pieces like glass and painting together and create a gallery to showcase them,” she says. Some of her featured artists include Connie Geerts, Kevin Kratz and Lisa Samphire.
Although people love to see every art style she showcases, Cuell admits that Effusion’s visitors tend to be attracted to the glass — she and other glass artists create items for architectural use (windows and doors) as well as unique art pieces, and display them in her gallery. “Because it’s cast glass and blown glass, people don’t see it everywhere,” she says.
Those who venerate paint on canvas should check out Murray Phillips’ Bugaboo Series, Sept. 19 to Oct. 3. “Phillips will be on location in the very beautiful alpine area for a couple of weeks and then he’ll have an in-gallery exhibition,” says Cuell. Phillips is a well-known Canadian artist and this is a must-see show for anyone interested in nature and landscape painting.
Painters Lucie Bause, Hugh Rice and Sandra Chapman will be presenting their work from Oct. 10 to 19. Expect to see fluid, rich colours and bold technique with every brush stroke. Sparkle exhibition is set for Nov. 14 to Dec. 31, featuring work from Canadian jewelry artists. •
